Humberside and Doncaster 16 Feb 18 Richard Bowater

I don’t know if other aircraft enthusiasts get the same as me in January, step back and think are you still enjoying the hobby, is it still interesting or should you find something else? Most years it’s the finding something else which sends me back to aviation.

Thursday saw the arrival at Humberside of 5N-BSO Embraer from Nigeria via Badajoz a very small airfield in Eastern Spain known for its resident Sparf F5s and nothing much else a place that I have visited a few years ago. I thought I would take a chance on Friday 16th and see if it was parked out at Humberside and also try and see some of the other new residents since my last visit.

Took Ian Ellington for a run out and on the way down he found out the 145 had moved from the airport terminal stand one to the hangars, so it was a drive around the back via the new to me roadway, very handy!

First sight was the sad remains of G-GCJL  Jetstream 41 laid abandoned in pieces and a bit further the ex Brindabella Airlines J41s remain stored in full colours and VH- registrations, and a bit further the prize 5N-BSO was found in full Bristows colours but in a bit of an awkward spot for photographs. For once we had a spot of look and a kind gent from a flying club allowed us access to a better position for a shot.

Nothing much else was happening, one rig AW-139 G-SNSJ helicopter flew and the Coast Guard S92s stayed in there hangar, so we left for Doncaster.

I didn’t know the full layout of the airport but thankfully Ian did, we arrived at the quarry just as EI-SEV Ryanair did its last touch and go. The ex Links Air Jetstream is still parked up looking damaged to the left of the terminal and the Vulcan is sat up towards the railway. N550LD Ce 550 and N80364 are parked stored on one of the old dispersals.

The terminal side contained a few visitors including a French Air Force Xingu 084 YH and a number of the residents were outside as 2 Excel were having a change around, for once both 727s were parked up together.

The trip swayed the continue vote for the time being let’s hope the year improves at DTVA.
