Accidents and Incidents
Not all aircraft that have departed Teesside International Airport in it's various guises over the years have had the good fortune to land again afterwards. It may seem a morbid subject, but accidents do happen and will continue to and rightly or wrongly when they do, our interest piques. Fortunately, there has been nothing on a particularly large scale at the airport during our civil history (and let's hope there never is!) but we have had our fair share of write-offs and close calls over the years and they have been documented below.
We have omitted a number of post-war incidents, partly because there were so many of them (in particular a large number of Mosquito/Meteor belly landings, engine failures and gear collapses) but more importantly they are all very well documented in the Military Index and it would be insulting to simply repeat the hard work Dave and Ian have already invested.
We have highlighted any accidents and incidents of particular notoriety or interest.
Accidents The aircraft is written off and/or there are casualties/fatalities |
