A Memorial Room has been opened at the St George Hotel, Teesside International Airport "The Middleton St George Memorial Room" was officially opened on 11th October 2016 by Group Captain Bradshaw , Station Commander at RAF Leeming. The permanent exhibition is a fascinating collection of wartime artifacts based upon the collection of memorabilia collected by Geoff Hill of Sedgefield over a period of close on fifty years and ranges from photographs and documentation through to complete Halifax and Lancaster flying control panels . It is hoped to continue to expand the collection and anyone wishing to donate or loan memorabilia would be more than welcome and Geoff can be contacted via the hotel.
The opening was also attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Darlington Councillors Brian and Doris Jones as well as several local veterans including David Shuttleworth from Eaglescliffe who undertook his aircrew training in Canada were he qualified as a navigator before returning to the UK to fly Lancasters from Hemswell in Lincolnshire .
Access to the memorial room is free, available during day hours via the hotel reception and is well worth a visit .
