Las Vegas McCarran Monday 4th August 2008

Following a day spent on Lake Mead we headed once again down the strip for the evening, and you guessed it the perimeter tour, the Dubai Govt 747 was parked amongst the biz along with an A6- Global 5000, probably tagged behind the jumbo with his wives in. The 747 only stayed for a day - spent up ???, the Canadian Hornet was still present

Nellis Air Force Base Tuesday 5th August 2008

The girls wanted to do some shopping so Matty and I headed of to Nellis for a few hours, arriving around 1100am, just as we approached three Eagles (turned out to be S Korean) and three of the Thunderbirds were landing on runway 06L. We had no sooner parked up at the end of Cheyanne Road which is in between the two runways when one of the highlights of the trip, three more South Korean F15K Eagles broke to land on 06L.  The aircraft are taking part in next weeks Red Flag and all six are new build aircraft delivered to Nellis straight from the factory and then onto Korea after the exercise. Also a nice surprise were four F16CJ's from the 35FW Misawa, Japan they were not on the list of attendee's for Red Flag but may have been an addition. The following aircraft were seen during the 1 1/2 hours we spent here, the HL F16's from last week were still on the ramp.

Las Vegas McCarran Tuesday 5th August 2008

Back down to the strip at around 5.30pm for a show, the drive-by added a few more into the log book. The UAE 747 had gone as had the Canadian Hornet, thought the UAE Global 5000 was still present.

 Las Vegas McCarran Wednesday 6th August 2008

The girls wanted to do some more shopping at the Outlet Centre which happens to be a mile from McCarran, we obliged and dropped them off and spent a couple of hours at the end of the 25 runways, the airport is heavily dominated by Southwest and spending more than a couple of hours here would be very monotonous. The AVIACSA made a nice photo and the A6 Global 5000 was still here. I did here a Bahrain heavy on the radio during the afternoon coming in.

Nellis Air Force Base Thursday 7th August 2008

Last day before heading home, Matty and I headed back to Nellis for the morning, we arrived at around 0800 and stayed until about 1230pm, heat haze even that early was a problem reading off some of aircraft on the ramp. A good selection of those we saw flew and everything landed on 09L with the sun behind making for some great shots. The Indians had covers on and didn't move during our stay, the French arrived in pairs at 1030am and 1130am from Luke, the Koreans  (should be from 122 FS) flew as did the Misawa F16's to reveal another two. Any helps with the gaps would be appreciated, the radio was a good help.  Local civil police passed by a couple of times, one stopped to ask if we had taken some good pictures and if we were having a good time, all very civilised.

Five Thunderbird F16's left at around 0900am, all confirmed serials were taken from photo's, callsigns well that's what they sounded like with all the jet noise etc. Seven 48 FW LN F15C's were parked and didn't move. The WW F16's didn't seem to be parked with the red flag aircraft and were down past the Thunderbirds ramp.

 Las Vegas McCarran Friday 8th August 2008

Well the holiday is over, superb time had by all, we boarded US Airways A320 N634AW for the four hour flight back to Philadelphia, this is what was seen on departure.

Philadelphia, PA Friday 8th August 2008

We had a few hours to kill before our flight to Manchester, found a nice spot to view the main runway movements, they seemed to use the cross runway for Dash 8's bizz and CRJ's and something very odd for an hour or so take off's on 25L and landing on 07L weird. Dominated by US Airways but nice to see a decent number of their regional fleet. A330 N271AY was our return jet, taking just under 6 hours back to  a wet & cold Manchester.
