Palma from Teesside from Chris Short
I have just
returned after having a 5 day Break in the Balearic Island of
Mallorca or as us British say Majorca. Living in Darlington i
was lucky enough to grab one of the Ryanair Flights out.
Incredible price of £9.99 each way if you just brought yourself
and a small bag !. For me i opted for the extra leg room
priority boarding etc .
My stay of
which i have been many times was the Helios Hotel in Can"
Pastella. A hotel that renowned for its Views of Palma Airport.
I will give a run down of the Hotel later .
My Flight was
on Tuesday 26th April Operated with Lauda Air . I must say it
was so stress free getting through security in fact now we were
told no electrics out your bag or liquids which did mean no
fiddling about with your bags . Teesside Airport looks very
modern inside . Shops and even the seating was nice with padded
seats . I would give the airport the thumbs up . The only
down side was coming back be prepared to Q whilst getting back
through immigration but hey thats the same all round the world
.
The flight out was around half full ,
nothing really to add was a smooth flight and the Cabin Crew
were polite and nice.
Getting through
immigration at Palma Airport was again very easy electronic
gates and a stamp in your passport . Down the ramp towards
baggage claim and the exit you had to show you covid pass which
was done through the Spanish locator form checked and out you go
.
We got into a taxi which cost 16 euro
but only 14 euro coming back . Make sure the taxi uses the metre
!!.
The Helios has
had a major revamp looks so much better now updated . All the
staff are friendly nothing is a problem for them. Not a lot of
Brits use this Hotel mostly Germans but i did notice more
English there than ever before on my visits . Here is a link to
the Hotel https://www.helioshotels.com/en/hotel-helios-mallorca/
It has 5 floors
Rooms 540 to549 are Airport facing rooms and are standard rooms
. Made up of twin beds a fridge shower toilet sink and a
balcony. The front of the Hotel is only 50 metres from the Sea
with a stunning beach and lots of places to eat out . A Spar
shop is located close by . I must say unlike other places you
dont see much stupidity and drunkenness. The hotel is on a major
bus route that can take you into Palma itself or back to the
Airport. But these bused do get very full so expect a few wont
stop and the bus stop.
The Hotel is
very accommodating for us spotters if you contact the hotel they
will do there upmost to get you a room and the back of the hotel
on the 5th floor but even the 4th and 3rd will give you views .
The Island is on a few major overflight routes as well . Camera
wise a good telephoto lens 300-400 will get you good shots,
flight tracking software is also needed to tie up Aircraft . The
normal route take offs is out to sea. But whilst i was
there 3 days there were on reverse ops. About a 15 minute walk
will see you at some old Battlements a few places to sit and
take some nice landing shots.
I would
strongly suggest visiting there April-May , Sept-Oct the crowds
and heat aint so bad and you'll find great prices for flights'
and Hotel. Taking advantage of a flight on your doorstep is just
too good to Miss .
On a final
notes please take a look at some photos of Aircraft i took out
there . You'll have a good chance of fleeting Eurowings as well
lol !. If you want any other details just contact me
