100 years of the DH.60 Moth Celebrations Old Warden Dave Anderson & Ian McMaster

With an expected gathering over two days of over 100 de Havilland aircraft, Ian and I decided to head down to Old Warden on the Friday, the last day of the event. Weather was an important factor for these type of aircraft and it was looking like a reasonable few days with a few scattered showers. We arrived just before opening time at 10am after a journey of almost 3 hours of low cloud and rain!! Luckily just after we parked up the rain stopped and the sun came out, we walked the flight line and had a look in the museum, I haven't listed the museum as I was here last year (click here for the log), heading back to the car we set the chairs out ready for lunch when the heavens opened, amazingly a few aircraft still arrived in very marginal VFR conditions! Inside the car for lunch we waited until 1pm when the flightline was opened for us to wander round, the rain had eased a little but still very wet. The flying display was due to start at 2.30pm which would include an 11 ship Tiger Moth formation and a 16 in formation to the letters 100. We decided due to grey skies photography of the flying display wouldn't be worth staying for and as we both needed a few of the more interesting visitors on the ground at Luton we would head off there.

35 minutes after leaving Old Warden we arrived at Luton, to say it was raining was an understatement, but us hardy northerners out came the brollies, bins and notebook and a log made, the Indian 737-9MAX BBJ being the highlight. I managed two photo's but it was just too wet for any more. As we headed back home up the A1, the formation of 11 Moths was displaying at Old Warden, nice sight to finish the day off. Overall a great day out, good variety of aircaft, 57 new ones for me and well done again Ian on producing the log.
