Canadair CF-116A Freedom Fighter Royal Canadian Air Force - 434 Squadron

One of four aircraft (116716, 116740, 116758) made a visit to Teesside on 22 April 1987, along with them were Silver Stars 133345 and 133094 and a Hornet 188918. This aircraft is now preserved with Canadian Air Sea and Land Museum at Markham, Ontario though stored as a hulk only. The influx of Canadian military aircraft which descended on Teesside on 22 April 87 were from 419 (Moose) Squadron at Cold Lake, Canada on exercises at Baden-Sollingen in Germany. 419 Squadron was based at Teesside (MSG) during WWII and the chance for a few pilots to see the squadrons old haunts was too good to miss. The Hornet was from 421 Sqdn but the pilot was ex 419 and he had another 419 guy in the back seat ! On departure the Hornet went tech causing a 24 hr delay and requiring a couple of visits by Hercules 130320 from Lahr to sort out the trouble.
